The Pirate Queen with Lucy Liu - Art Direction

As Lead-Artist and Principle Environment-Artist, it was a great pleasure and exciting challenge to oversee the art department on the Emmy-nominated VR narrative title The Pirate Queen with Lucy Liu.

I was responsible for research, concept-art, level-design and modelling and texturing for props and environment assets, as well as overseeing a small team of artists, mentoring them and establishing art workflows. I also worked on various technical aspects of the game, including lighting, optimisation, blueprints and VFX.

It was a challenging brief: trying to bring to life a relatively unknown period of history in a realistic artstyle on a performance-limited target hardware (Quest 2). Performance was a huge factor in the art production pipeline for this project, and these restraints heavily limited the scope of what we could achieve in terms of level size, asset density and fidelity of individual assets. However I am proud of what the tiny art team and I managed to achieve in the time, despite the difficulties.
